A man was critically injured following a house fire Tuesday evening in Onondaga County.

According to New York State Police, emergency crews were called to a residence on Areopagitica Avenue in the Town of Cicero around 7 p.m. for a reported structure fire.  Authorities said Mark Smith, 41, of Bridgeport, was inside the home at the time of the fire. He was transported to Upstate University Hospital in critical condition.

Officials say the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Preliminary findings do not indicate any foul play.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and several local fire departments from across the area, along with the county’s Fire Investigation Unit and emergency medical crews.
