A tractor-trailer driver was killed Thursday morning after a manure tanker overturned in the Town of Scipio.
According to Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck, deputies were dispatched at approximately 8:30 a.m. to Route 34B, just south of the Fleming-Scipio Town Line Road, for a reported single-vehicle crash.
Investigators say a southbound 1996 Freightliner hauling liquid manure left the shoulder of the road and overturned as the truck re-entered the highway.
The driver, who was the vehicle’s sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are withholding the victim’s identity pending notification of family members.
The crash remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were the New York State Police, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Police, Cayuga County Emergency Services, Cayuga County 911, the Cayuga County Coroner, the Scipio, Genoa, Fleming, King Ferry, Poplar Ridge, and Long Hill fire departments, Fleming Ambulance, Southern Cayuga Ambulance, Four Town Ambulance, and the New York State Department of Transportation.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.
