A Sterling man is facing misdemeanor charges after Cayuga County Sheriff’s deputies say he caused nearly $14,000 in damage to two parked vehicles while operating a side-by-side ATV.

31-year-old Justin Brown was arrested following a warrant investigation into a property damage complaint reported on June 16.

Deputies say they responded to a residence in the Town of Sterling after receiving a report that two vehicles parked in a driveway had been damaged. The investigation determined that Brown allegedly operated a side-by-side ATV in a reckless manner, causing $13,961.76 in damage to the vehicles.

After making multiple unsuccessful attempts to contact Brown, investigators obtained an arrest warrant through Sterling Town Court.

Authorities say Brown later contacted the Sheriff’s Office and turned himself in. He was charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Brown is scheduled to appear in Sterling Town Court at a later date.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
