Three people are facing charges after allegedly trying to smuggle narcotics into the Cayuga Correctional Facility in Moravia.
According to NYSCOBPA, the union representing corrections officers, the first arrest took place on June 14 when a Bronx woman and her 11-year-old child were visiting an inmate. The union alleges that, during the visit, a K9 was alerted by the child. The mother then surrendered a bundle concealed in the child’s pants containing approximately 15 grams of a substance field testing confirmed to be marijuana.
The woman was arrested, charged with promoting prison contraband, and processed by State Police in Moravia.
On July 12, the union says a K9 was alerted to a Philadelphia man who was then taken to a private room where he voluntarily surrendered five bundles concealed in his pants. Four bundles allegedly contained 20 grams of marijuana while the fifth bundle contained pills which tested positive for OxyContin and Buprenorphine – opioid narcotics. The man was arrested for promoting prison contraband and taken to state police for processing.
Also on July 12, NYSCOPBA claims a West Monroe woman was stopped by a K9 and voluntarily surrendered a bundle containing wax on cellophane paper that tested positive for THC. She was arrested for promoting prison contraband and taken to state police for processing.
NYSCOPBA added that all narcotics recovered were placed into evidence.
