On Friday, deputies from the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 43-year-old Springport man following a traffic stop on Backus Road.

Sheriff Brian Schenck reports that at approximately 9:02 PM on March 20, deputies attempted to stop a vehicle near State Route 326. According to investigators, the driver, Simon Fricano, initially pulled over but then allegedly accelerated away from the deputy. The vehicle was observed swerving, failing to stay in its lane, and failing to use a turn signal.

The pursuit ended when Fricano pulled into a driveway and exited the vehicle. Following an investigation at the scene, deputies determined that Fricano was allegedly intoxicated by alcohol. He was taken into custody and transported to the Public Safety Building, where he reportedly refused to provide a chemical breath sample to determine his blood alcohol content.

Fricano was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (First Offense), Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, Moving From Lane Unsafely, Failure to Keep Right, and Failing to Use a Turn Signal.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
