The body of a missing swimmer was recovered from Canandaigua Lake early Monday morning.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 51-year-old Patrick Colacino of Newark.
Colacino was last seen at the surface Sunday evening after entering the lake. Marine units and firefighters searched the area until after 10:30 p.m., using boats equipped with sonar and a drone.
The search resumed at 5 a.m. About an hour later, sonar operators located what they believed to be the victim approximately 125 yards from the eastern shoreline in about 20 feet of water.
Members of the Ontario County Underwater Search and Rescue Team recovered Colacino and transported his body by boat to Deep Run Park in the Town of Gorham.
Ontario County Coroner Thomas Cheney is assisting with the investigation. An autopsy will be conducted at Geneva General Hospital, but investigators said preliminary evidence is consistent with drowning.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Marine Unit and Office of Emergency Management, Canandaigua Fire and Ambulance, Cheshire Fire Department and New York State Police assisted with the search and recovery.
The search resumed Monday morning for a 51-year-old man who disappeared while swimming in Canandaigua Lake Sunday night.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the area of 4108 State Route 364 at approximately 8:41 p.m. after receiving a report that a man had jumped from a boat to swim and failed to resurface.
Investigators said Patrick Colacino entered the water from a boat with several other passengers. Witnesses told deputies Colacino was seen swimming, but after about five minutes he was no longer visible.
Multiple boats equipped with sonar responded to the scene and searched the area Sunday night. A drone was also deployed to assist in the effort, but Colacino was not located.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office suspended the search overnight and resumed search operations Monday morning. Authorities say the search will continue until Colacino is found.
