A 65-year-old man was killed Sunday evening after his SUV left the roadway and struck a tree in the Town of Locke.
According to Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck, deputies were dispatched to State Route 38, just south of Tucker Hill Road, at approximately 7:10 p.m. for a reported single-vehicle crash. A preliminary investigation found that a gray Toyota RAV4 was traveling northbound on State Route 38 when it crossed the center line, left the west shoulder of the road, and crashed into a tree.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, 65-year-old Lester Doolittle of Locke, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police, Cayuga County 911, Four Town Ambulance, the Locke Fire Department, and the Cayuga County Coroner’s Office.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Authorities said no additional information is being released at this time.
