A new pedestrian footbridge, sidewalk and bike path along State Route 364 are now open in Canandaigua following the completion of a multi-year infrastructure project aimed at improving safety and accessibility.
Local and county officials gathered Monday to celebrate the project’s completion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The improvements include a pedestrian footbridge, approximately 2,400 feet of sidewalk, a dedicated bike path, enhanced lighting and drainage upgrades along the Route 364 corridor. The project is designed to improve pedestrian safety during concerts and events at the Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center while also creating safer connections to Finger Lakes Community College, its trail system and the City of Canandaigua.
The project was more than five years in the making and was funded through a combination of public and private support. Funding included a $1.6 million Transportation Alternatives Program grant from the New York State Department of Transportation, along with a $300,000 contribution from the Sands Family Foundation that helped close a funding gap.
In a statement, the Town of Canandaigua said the completed project reflects what can be achieved when public and private resources come together with a shared vision of improving the community.
The new pathway and footbridge are expected to benefit pedestrians, cyclists, students and concertgoers traveling through one of the county’s busiest corridors.
