Residents concerned about a proposed data center project in the Town of Lansing will have an opportunity to learn more and discuss potential impacts during a public presentation scheduled for later this week in Ithaca.

The event, titled “No Data Center on Cayuga Lake: A Public Presentation,” will be held on Thursday, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca, located at 306 North Aurora Street.

Organizers say the presentation will focus on data centers, their potential environmental and community impacts, and concerns surrounding a proposed facility near Cayuga Lake. The event will also include information on actions residents, business owners, elected officials, faith communities, and local organizations can take to become involved.

Attendees will receive educational materials and information they can share throughout the community.

The program will open with remarks from Samuel George, a Bear Clan leader and one of the ten Sachems, or chiefs, of the Cayuga Nation.

Scheduled speakers include:

  • Ken Wolkin, president of FLX Strong
  • Steve Daly, managing attorney with Citizen Environmental Law
  • Anna Kelles, New York State Assemblymember for the 125th District
  • Dan Lamb, deputy supervisor for the Town of Dryden
  • Melissa Hoffman, organizer with Food & Water Watch

Organizers say representatives from several local organizations will also be available to answer questions and provide additional information.
