Three Penn Yan police officers are being credited with helping save the life of a man who suffered a medical emergency at a local business last week.

According to the Penn Yan Police Department, Officers Gabriel Wood and Ken Eldridge, along with Investigator Wayne Marsh, responded to a report of an unresponsive man on June 24.

When they arrived, officers found a man in his 70s lying on the floor. Police said he was not breathing and had turned purple in color. Officer Wood immediately began CPR while Officer Eldridge retrieved an automated external defibrillator (AED) from a patrol vehicle.

After the AED analyzed the man’s condition, it advised delivering a shock. Officers administered one shock, and the man regained spontaneous breathing, according to police.

Penn Yan Ambulance personnel then took over patient care before transporting the man to a landing zone, where he was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital. Police said officers also provided traffic control to help the ambulance reach its destination safely and quickly.

The man is reportedly in stable condition. Police credited the quick actions and teamwork of the responding officers and Penn Yan Ambulance personnel with the successful outcome.
