On Thursday, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Throop man following an investigation into a stolen dump trailer.

Deputies took 43-year-old Mathew Smith into custody on an arrest warrant for Misapplication of Property. The charges stem from an initial dispatch on April 2, when a victim reported lending a dump trailer to Smith, who then allegedly refused to return it. An investigation revealed that Smith had borrowed the trailer and subsequently sold it to an uninvolved third party.

Smith was processed and processed through Centralized Arraignment, where he was released on his own recognizance.

He is scheduled to appear in the Throop Town Court at a later date.
