The former Big Lots store on Routes 5 and 20 in the Town of Geneva is being renovated for a new Ollie’s Bargain Outlet.
The space will be expanded to accommodate the new store. Ollie’s sells discounted overstock and closeout merchandise, including electronics, books, clothing, toys and food products.
The Finger Lakes Times reports the company contacted the town about the project several months ago. Ollie’s is leasing the plaza space and is expected to apply for a sign permit before seeking a certificate of occupancy.
Big Lots closed its Geneva-area store about two years ago as part of a nationwide round of closures involving more than 200 locations.
Ollie’s is also preparing to open a store at the Arcadia Shopping Plaza on Route 31 in Newark. That location, which will occupy the former Herb Philipson’s store, is expected to open in September.
The company already operates stores in Canandaigua and Auburn, along with several locations in the Rochester area. Job listings for managers and sales associates at the new Geneva store have also been posted online.
Based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Ollie’s operates 672 stores in 35 states.
