After more than a year on the road and thousands of miles on foot, endurance runner Noah Coughlan has completed his ambitious journey across all 50 states.
Coughlan crossed the finish line in Honolulu, Hawaii, on July 4, marking the completion of his “Run For America: A Tribute to the American People” on the nation’s 250th birthday.
In a social media post celebrating the milestone, Coughlan wrote, “The 2026 Run For America is complete. Fifty states down. Zero states remain. Thank you Honolulu Police Department. Thank you United States Marine Corps. Thank you American people. Happy 250th Birthday, America.”
The solo cross-country journey was designed to honor everyday Americans and military veterans while promoting unity and appreciation for the nation’s shared history. Throughout the run, Coughlan traveled alone, pushing a jogging stroller carrying his supplies while running alongside a large American flag.
Residents of the Finger Lakes had the opportunity to cheer him on in January when his route brought him through the region. After entering New York from Vermont, Coughlan traveled through Albany, Utica and Syracuse before passing through Seneca Falls, Geneva and Canandaigua on his way west.
The 50-state run added to an already remarkable resume of endurance challenges. Coughlan previously completed four coast-to-coast runs across the United States in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2023, along with a 600-mile run around Ireland in 2020.
When he passed through the Finger Lakes earlier this year, Coughlan was on schedule to complete the continental United States before continuing into Alaska and ultimately finishing his journey in Hawaii on Independence Day, a goal he successfully achieved.
His completion of the run on July 4 coincided with America’s semiquincentennial celebration, bringing his tribute to the American people to a symbolic conclusion.
