Eight people were injured after a barrage of gunfire erupted in downtown Rochester early Sunday morning, according to the Rochester Police Department.
Police said officers assigned to the city’s downtown bar detail were patrolling the area around East Avenue, Alexander Street, Union Street and East Broad Street at approximately 12:30 a.m. when they heard multiple gunshots coming from the parking lot at 275 East Ave. Moments later, officers heard additional gunfire near 475 East Broad St., prompting a large police response.
Investigators said more than 50 rounds were fired from multiple firearms during what they described as a single, moving incident that unfolded across the downtown area.
Responding officers located seven people who had been shot and one person who had been stabbed between the two scenes.
The victims range in age from 12 to 40 years old. Police said none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
