A traffic stop in the Village of Newark escalated into a pursuit, crash into a home, and an hours-long standoff Friday night, ending with one suspect in custody and two others still at large, according to police.

Authorities say the incident began around 7:10 p.m. when an officer attempted to stop a vehicle in the village. The driver fled, leading to a brief pursuit that ended when the vehicle crashed into a home on Hoffman Street.

Three people inside the vehicle got out and ran from the scene, according to police. One suspect then forced entry into a nearby home and barricaded himself in the basement, while a resident inside was able to safely escape without injury.

Multiple agencies responded, including the Newark Police Department, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police, along with fire and EMS crews. Officials said no injuries were reported.

After a standoff lasting about two hours, the suspect inside the home was taken into custody around 10:15 p.m., police said. Authorities say the individual has a prior criminal record.

The other two suspects who fled have been identified and are expected to be taken into custody.
