As he continues meeting with constituents across his district this summer, Assemblyman Brian Manktelow says reducing government red tape remains one of the top concerns he hears from residents, businesses and local governments.
Speaking on Monday’s FLX Morning with Ted Baker, Manktelow said he is using the legislative break to gather feedback from constituents and identify priorities ahead of the next legislative session.
Among the issues he plans to focus on is streamlining state permitting and regulatory processes, which he said often delay projects and make it more difficult for businesses and municipalities to complete needed work.
Manktelow said agencies such as the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Department of Transportation and Department of Labor can create lengthy approval processes that slow economic development and local projects.
The assemblyman said he plans to meet with state agencies, including the DEC, to discuss ways to modernize regulations and reduce unnecessary delays.
“We need transparency, of course, but we need to make business easier here in New York State,” Manktelow said. “The permitting process takes forever, and some of the red tape really needs to be changed because it’s old-school red tape.”
Manktelow said helping local governments, businesses and property owners navigate state regulations and complete projects more efficiently will be a major focus of his work in the coming months.
