Children riding safely through Penn Yan this summer could be rewarded with a free ice cream treat.
The Yates County District Attorney’s Office has partnered with the Penn Yan Police Department and Seneca Farms to encourage bicycle safety by rewarding young riders who wear their helmets.
Throughout the summer, Penn Yan police officers will be watching for children who are wearing bicycle helmets while riding. Those spotted practicing safe riding habits may receive a special “ticket” redeemable for a free kiddie-sized ice cream at Seneca Farms.
Officials say the program is designed to reinforce safe behavior in a fun and positive way while reminding families that wearing a helmet is one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce the risk of serious injury in a bicycle crash.
The Yates County District Attorney’s Office, Penn Yan Police Department, and Seneca Farms said they are proud to work together to promote bicycle safety and encourage children to make smart choices whenever they ride.
The message to young cyclists is simple: wear a helmet, ride safely, and you just might get rewarded for doing the right thing.
