The Town of Geneva will recognize two Ontario County farms next month for their commitment to environmentally responsible farming practices that help protect Seneca Lake.
Heifer Haven Farms, LLC and Lawnhurst Farms, LLC will be honored during the Town’s 2026 Lake Friendly Farm Recognition program on August 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Geneva Town Hall on County Road 6.
The Lake Friendly Farm program, established in 2017, recognizes agricultural operations in the Seneca Lake watershed that use management practices promoting environmental stewardship while supporting the region’s agricultural economy.
Previous recipients include DeFelice Farm, Hansen Farms, Pedersen Farms, Red Jacket Orchards, Reed’s Farm and Vince DeBoover Farms.
Town officials said Heifer Haven and Lawnhurst are among Ontario County’s largest crop and livestock operations. Because of their size, both farms maintain comprehensive nutrient management plans designed to keep manure and other soil nutrients on their property and out of nearby waterways.
The farms have invested in a variety of conservation practices and systems aimed at reducing runoff and protecting water quality in the Seneca Lake watershed.
The recognition event is open to the public and will include presentations by farm representatives discussing their environmental practices and efforts to be good neighbors. Speakers from Cornell University’s PRO-DAIRY program and the Ontario County Soil and Water Conservation District will also discuss the opportunities and challenges facing agriculture in the Finger Lakes.
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation pesticide credits and Certified Crop Adviser continuing education credits will be available for attendees.
