Homeowner Extinguishes Fire Before Crews Arrive in Bellona

A Bellona homeowner was able to extinguish a structure fire Sunday afternoon before emergency responders arrived on scene.

According to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and multiple fire and EMS agencies were dispatched at approximately 4:50 p.m. to a residence on Bills Road for a reported structure fire.  Investigators said the homeowner had been burning off weeds. The blaze was put out before first responders arrived, limiting damage to the northwest exterior corner of the home.

No injuries were reported.

Bellona, Benton, and Himrod fire departments responded to the scene along with Penn Yan Ambulance.

The incident was investigated by the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.
