A Farmington man has been issued several traffic tickets following an investigation into a fatal pedestrian crash in the Town of Hopewell.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office said 25-year-old Aaron Shahin was ticketed Friday for improper plates, operating without insurance, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and operating an uninspected motor vehicle.

The tickets stem from a July 11 crash outside the Econo Lodge on Routes 5 and 20. Investigators said Shahin was driving a pickup truck when it struck 67-year-old William Obernesser of Rome as he crossed the highway.

Obernesser was taken to F.F. Thompson Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office said its investigation determined the crash was caused by the pedestrian failing to yield to traffic.

Shahin is scheduled to answer the tickets in Hopewell Town Court at a later date.
