A Palmyra man was airlifted to the hospital following a motorcycle crash Friday afternoon in the Town of Manchester.

Ontario County sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Minor and Johnson roads around 2 p.m. Investigators said 66-year-old John Mayer was traveling south on Johnson Road when his motorcycle left the roadway and struck a fire hydrant.

Mayer suffered broken ribs and a head injury. Paramedics at the scene believed he may have experienced a medical emergency that caused the crash.

Mayer was flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital. Finger Lakes Ambulance and the Palmyra Fire Department assisted deputies at the scene.
