An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect through midnight Saturday as wildfire smoke is expected to push pollution levels into the unhealthy range across much of New York.

The advisory, issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, warns that fine particulate pollution is forecast to reach an Air Quality Index (AQI) above 170, significantly higher than the threshold of 100 used to issue air quality alerts.

State health officials are urging residents to limit strenuous outdoor activity, especially during periods when smoke is most noticeable.

People who are most vulnerable to poor air quality include young children, older adults, and those with asthma, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions. Anyone experiencing symptoms related to the smoky conditions should contact their healthcare provider.

The advisory remains in effect until 11:59 p.m. Saturday. Residents are encouraged to monitor local air quality conditions and reduce time outdoors if smoke or breathing difficulties become a concern.
