A Geneva man faces multiple misdemeanor charges following an animal cruelty investigation that led to the rescue of a dog.
The Ontario County Humane Society reports that 53-year-old Lee McKoy was arrested on Saturday. The initial investigation began on June 26, when Geneva Police Department officers responded to a residence at 8 Burrall Avenue regarding a one-year-old Mastiff and Pitbull mix named Ash. The dog was found confined in a metal kennel that was reportedly covered in urine and feces. McKoy, who was in the process of moving, was not present at the time.
Police responded to the location again on June 29, after receiving a second complaint regarding the animal’s living conditions. Investigators determined that Ash allegedly had not been fed for three days and was living without food or water in a kennel filled with feces and urine. The Ontario County Humane Society responded and seized the dog, transporting him to a shelter for care.
McKoy was located on Saturday and arrested. He has been charged with Animal Cruelty, Failure to Provide Food and Water to an Impounded Animal, and Animal Abandonment.
McKoy surrendered the animal to the shelter, and the dog will be placed up for adoption. McKoy was issued an appearance ticket and released to answer the charges in Geneva City Court at a later date.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
