Residents of several apartments at a Canandaigua housing complex were temporarily evacuated early Sunday morning after reports of a natural gas odor.
According to the City of Canandaigua Fire Department, crews were dispatched to Camelot Court at approximately 12:30 a.m. following reports of the smell of natural gas.
Firefighters determined the issue was isolated to a block of eight apartment units. Residents were evacuated as a precaution while emergency crews worked to secure the gas supply and investigate the source of the odor.
New York State Electric & Gas and Rochester Gas and Electric responded to the scene to secure additional utilities and assist with isolating the problem. Canandaigua Emergency Squad, the Canandaigua Police Department, and Ontario County 911 also assisted during the response.
Officials said a brief power interruption occurred while utility crews conducted their investigation.
The incident was brought under control without further complications, and residents were expected to be allowed back into their homes once crews completed their work.
Fire department officials thanked residents for their patience and cooperation during the overnight response.
