Longtime elementary school teacher Stacy Sabin was recognized with the Canandaigua City School District’s highest staff honor during commencement ceremonies Sunday at CMAC.
Sabin, a second-grade teacher, was named the recipient of the 2026 John Wilcox Award, which recognizes a district employee who exemplifies the dedication to students and educational excellence demonstrated by the late longtime Canandaigua Academy principal John Wilcox.
District officials presented the award during Canandaigua Academy’s graduation ceremony, making the recognition especially meaningful for Sabin, whose first class of second-grade students reached graduation this year.
Sabin has taught second grade in the district for the past 11 years and is known for maintaining relationships with students long after they leave her classroom. Colleagues, students, and families describe her as one of the happiest and friendliest people they know.

According to the district, Sabin’s positive attitude and commitment to building strong connections with students and their families have made a lasting impact throughout the school community.
The John Wilcox Award is considered the highest honor bestowed upon a Canandaigua City School District employee and is awarded to an individual who embodies the student-centered values and leadership that defined Wilcox’s career as an educator.
