An Ontario County jury has found a man guilty of repeatedly sexually abusing a child under the age of 10 over a period of approximately three years.
Ontario County District Attorney Jason MacBride announced that Zachary Rogers was convicted on July 16 following a nine-day jury trial before Ontario County Court Judge Frederick G. Reed. The jury found Rogers guilty of attempted predatory sexual assault against a child and endangering the welfare of a child.
According to prosecutors, Rogers repeatedly sexually abused the child while the victim was in his care over an approximately three-year period.
The case was prosecuted by District Attorney Jason MacBride and Assistant District Attorney Kaleigh Wurz.
In a statement following the verdict, MacBride thanked the jury for its careful consideration of the evidence and praised the victim’s courage.
“We are grateful to the jury for its careful attention to the evidence and its commitment to justice on behalf of the victim,” MacBride said. “Child sexual abuse cases are among the most challenging to investigate and prosecute, and justice is only possible through the dedication of our multidisciplinary team and the unwavering strength of victims who choose to speak the truth.”
MacBride also commended the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and Ontario County Child Protective Services for what he described as a lengthy, thorough, and compassionate investigation. He specifically recognized Sheriff’s Investigator Tyler Brooks-Lambert for his work on the case.
Following the guilty verdict, Rogers was remanded to custody without bail pending sentencing.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on October 1. Rogers faces a minimum prison sentence of 10 years to life and a maximum of 25 years to life. He will also be required to register as a sex offender under the New York State Sex Offender Registration Act.
