A Cato-Meridian art teacher has been selected as a featured artist for a Syracuse arts project.

The district announced that Shea McCarthy, a high school art teacher, has been selected as one of the featured artists in the Syracuse Poster Project’s 2026 series. The project sees poets and artists work together to create illustrated poetry posters inspired by the city and surrounding landmarks. The works are displayed throughout Syracuse and are also available as prints.

McCarthy’s design, which received second place, was inspired by a poem about the Palace Theatre, an historic music, film, and live performance venue in the city.

The work will be displayed in downtown Syracuse between Salt City Market and the post office.
