John Holtz has been recognized for his dedication to preserving and sharing the history of the Bristol Hills.
State Senator Pam Helming and Assemblywoman Andrea Bailey honored Holtz during a recent town board meeting for his contributions to documenting the region’s folklore, legends and history.
Holtz’s passion for local history helped inspire the creation of History and Mystery: Folklore and Legends of the Bristol Hills, a signature publication of the Bristol Hills Historical Society.
The publication also served as the basis for an award-winning documentary coproduced by Holtz, who served as the book’s general editor, and South Bristol resident Lenore Friend. Friend is the director of public relations and communications at Finger Lakes Community College.
