The City of Auburn is set to mark the nation’s 250th birthday with a special tree planting.
Aside from the normal plethora of American flags that normally mark Independence Day, City Clerk Chuck Mason announced on FLX Morning that the city will plant a “freedom tree” to commemorate the semiquincentennial of the ratification of the Declaration of Independence.
“A new tree will be going in on the corner of Lincoln and South Street on the side of the Equal Rights Heritage Center”, said Mason, “and a plaque will be installed that the tree has been planted on the anniversary of the 250th of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.”
Mason added that, due to the holiday, trash pick up will be a day early throughout the city.
