The Downtown Auburn Saturday Market returns this weekend for its eighth season, bringing locally sourced products, artisans, food vendors and family-friendly entertainment to the city through the end of August.

The market opens Saturday at the New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center, 25 South Street, and will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through Aug. 29, excluding July 4. Organizers say the rain-or-shine event is designed to connect residents and visitors with local producers while supporting small businesses across Cayuga County and the surrounding region.

Shoppers can browse a variety of vendors offering farm-fresh produce, baked goods, honey, syrups, crafts, apparel, artwork and specialty items, along with food trucks and other attractions.

Opening day will feature a special America 250 theme celebrating the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Entertainment includes live music from the Mike Doyle and Michael Gonzalez Duo from 10 a.m. to noon, appearances by Elizabeth Cady Stanton impersonator Dr. Melinda Grube, historical exhibits from the Ward O’Hara Agricultural Museum, and a free dance fitness class led by YMCA instructor Cassie Copes.

Families can also enjoy performances and balloon animals from Jeff the Magic Man and complimentary face painting throughout the event.

The Saturday Market is supported in part by America 250 funding provided through the City of Auburn’s Historic and Cultural Sites Commission and the New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center. Additional support comes from the Skaneateles Area Arts Council, Wegmans, Taste NY and Cornell Cooperative Extension.

Several themed market days are planned throughout the summer, including the Strawberry Swap & Social on July 11, Ice Cream Fundae on July 18, and the Big Summer Blowout season finale on Aug. 29.

Organizers say the market’s mission is to support local producers, provide access to fresh food, create opportunities for small businesses and offer a welcoming community gathering space in downtown Auburn.

More information, including a complete entertainment schedule, is available through the New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center.
