The American Red Cross is encouraging donors to roll up their sleeves this summer, warning that seasonal challenges are putting added pressure on the nation’s blood supply — and offering a limited-time incentive to help boost donations.

From June 29 through July 12, individuals who donate blood or platelets will receive a Red Cross x Looney Tunes T-shirt, while supplies last, as part of a national partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products.

Officials say the campaign is aimed at drawing in new and returning donors during a time when donations often decline due to summer travel, busy schedules, and severe weather disruptions.

According to the Red Cross, scheduled donations make up about 90% of all blood donations, and recent weeks have seen a sharp drop in those appointments.

“Need for blood never goes on vacation,” the organization said, noting that hospitals continue to rely on a steady supply of blood products for emergencies, surgeries, and ongoing medical care.

Donors are encouraged to make appointments through the Red Cross Blood Donor App, RedCrossBlood.org, by calling 1-800-RED CROSS, or by using the RapidPass system to complete pre-donation health information ahead of time.

All blood types are needed, and eligibility generally includes being at least 17 years old in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed), weighing at least 110 pounds, and being in good health.

The Red Cross says the promotion is also tied to a broader campaign celebrating the country’s 250th anniversary and aims to encourage what it calls a “spirit of service” through donations.

The American Red Cross supplies about 40% of the nation’s blood and also provides disaster relief, training, and support services across the country.
