Residents of Weedsport will have an opportunity tonight to learn more about a major infrastructure project aimed at improving the village’s aging water distribution system.
The Village of Weedsport will host a public information meeting on the upcoming Weedsport Water System Improvements Project at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Village Office, located at 8892 South Street.
Village officials said the project is being undertaken in response to years of water main breaks and continued deterioration of the water system. The Village Board has approved moving forward with a comprehensive upgrade plan that includes improvements to water mains, treatment facilities, storage infrastructure, and customer metering.
The project is divided into three construction contracts.
Contract 1 calls for the installation of approximately 43,000 linear feet of new water main, along with related valves, hydrants and other infrastructure components.
Contract 2 includes upgrades to the village’s metering and treatment facilities. Planned work includes replacing piping, valves and meters, making improvements to the existing metering building, constructing a new tank bypass vault and chlorine injection vault, and installing a prefabricated rechlorination building. The contract also includes upgrades to the village’s water storage tank, including a new mixing system, disinfection byproduct treatment equipment, and related safety improvements.
Contract 3 includes the purchase and installation of approximately 732 new water meters throughout the village.
Village officials said construction is expected to begin in late summer 2026.
The public meeting will provide residents with an overview of the project and an opportunity to ask questions before construction gets underway.
