Emergency responders were called to another e-bike crash in Auburn on Wednesday, marking the second reported e-bike-related accident in the city in as many days.
According to the Auburn Fire Department, crews were dispatched around 3:00 p.m. to the intersection of Genesee and State streets. Auburn firefighters, Auburn police officers, and Auburn City Ambulance personnel responded after receiving reports of a female rider who was reportedly drifting in and out of consciousness following the crash.
First responders assessed the woman at the scene and provided medical treatment before transporting her to a hospital for further evaluation and care. No additional information on her condition was immediately available.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The incident comes less than 24 hours after a separate e-bike crash left a rider seriously injured. On Tuesday evening, emergency crews responded to East Genesee Street near Hoopes Park shortly after 7:15 p.m. after an e-bike collided with a vehicle. The rider was treated at the scene and then transported to Auburn Junior High School, where a Mercy Flight helicopter airlifted the patient to a Syracuse-area trauma center. No other injuries were reported in that crash.
Auburn police continue to investigate both incidents.
As e-bikes become increasingly popular, safety officials are reminding riders to obey traffic laws, remain alert to their surroundings, and wear properly fitted helmets to reduce the risk of serious injury.
