John H. Kurzejeski STANLEY - Big John is gone. John H. Kurzejeski passed away peacefully on Dec. 9. 2012, after a long battle with respiratory disease at the age of 87. He was born in Twin Rocks, Pa., on Aug. 8, 1925, and grew up in Canandaigua. He served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater during World War II. He retired from New York State Department of Transportation and was a very popular, well respected and trusted, police officer in Canandaigua for many years. He went out of his way to help people whenever he could and served as a role model for many children in the city. Survivors include his children, John H., Michael, John M. and Margaret Kurzejeski and Stacie Cooley; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph Kurzejeski; and several nieces and nephews. At Big John's request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 14, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. It has been suggested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to American Lung Association , Finger Lakes Region Inc., 1595 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, NY 14620.
