Two people are dead following an early morning house fire in the Village of Groton.
Firefighters responded around 12:32 a.m. Friday, for a reported structure fire at Valley View Mobile Home Park. Initial reports indicated at least one person was still inside.
When Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames. They were later advised that two people were inside. Deputies assisted firefighters in removing one occupant through a window.
Both individuals died as a result of the fire, including the person who was extricated.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including Groton, Dryden, and McLean fire departments, along with area ambulance services, Ithaca Airport Crash Fire Rescue, and the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims.
