Weekend Forecast: Gorgeous Saturday, then heat builds fast next week

Tracking a pretty remarkable stretch ahead — the Finger Lakes are sitting on a comfortable Friday evening right now, and what follows over the next several days is one of the more dramatic warm-up stories we’ve seen this summer. Temperatures across the region are in the mid-to-upper 70s as we head into this evening, with partly cloudy skies and a light northwest breeze making it feel quite pleasant.

Tonight, lows drop to near 60° under partly cloudy skies. No frost risk, no significant rain — a straightforward overnight.

Saturday looks excellent for the second day of IMSA weekend at The Glen, with highs climbing to near 79° under mostly sunny skies and winds staying light at around 4 mph. Race day Sunday follows close behind with mainly clear skies and highs near 81° — near-ideal conditions for the Sahlen’s Six Hours endurance race, with traffic on Routes 14 and 414 building early.

The story that bears watching is next week. The NWS Buffalo office is flagging dangerous heat indices through Tuesday into Friday, with 90°-plus highs arriving Monday and potentially peaking near 95° by Wednesday and Thursday. Heat-related headlines are considered likely. Showers and thunderstorms are possible midweek, but timing remains uncertain at this range.
