Overnight Outlook: Showers Arrive Thursday, Warmth Builds This Weekend

Wednesday evening’s been a treat — the Weather Center has been watching Geneva hold steady at 76° under a partly cloudy sky, northwest breeze at 7 mph, humidity sitting in the mid-40s. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Tonight stays quiet and comfortable. Skies remain partly cloudy, lows dropping into the upper 50s across most of the region — Corning and Bath dipping a bit cooler into the low 50s with lighter winds. No frost concerns, no precipitation. No NWS alerts are in effect.

Thursday is where the pattern changes. A warm frontal segment pushes moisture into the region from the west in the late overnight hours, with showers spreading east through Thursday morning. A cold frontal passage Thursday afternoon and evening brings a second round, including embedded thunderstorms. NWS Buffalo notes the western Southern Tier carries the best chance of an isolated stronger storm — damaging winds are the primary concern, though instability looks limited early in the day.

Looking ahead to the IMSA weekend at Watkins Glen: Friday carries some lingering drizzle, Saturday brings light drizzle conditions, but race day Sunday — the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen — shapes up as the best day of the three, with mainly clear skies and a high near 81°. Route 14 and 414 traffic builds through the weekend; plan accordingly.

Beyond that, warmth builds fast. Monday reaches the upper 80s, and the pattern continues trending hotter into next week.
