The Geneva Weather Center is watching a cold front push through the region tonight — 68° here right now under a full overcast, east wind at 6 mph, and that drizzle falling across much of the Finger Lakes is the front’s leading edge doing its work. Ithaca and Watkins Glen are seeing the heavier returns at this hour, and a secondary round with embedded thunderstorms is expected this evening as the frontal boundary clears through.
Lows tonight settle near 59° regionwide, with no frost concern. The front should exit well before midnight, and skies begin to clear from the west by early Friday morning.
Friday brings a notable rebound — highs near 77° under drying skies, with only a 9% precipitation chance holding over from overnight. It’s a good-looking day to be outside.
Looking ahead to the weekend: the IMSA WeatherTech weekend at Watkins Glen International gets a favorable hand from the atmosphere. Friday practice and qualifying should see only leftover drizzle clearing. Saturday carries a 30% shower chance, but Saturday’s support races shouldn’t face anything disruptive. Race day Sunday — the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen — looks like the best of the three, with mainly clear skies and a high near 81°. Traffic on Route 14 will be heavy all weekend; plan accordingly.
Heat builds sharply into next week, with highs reaching 86° Monday and 91° Tuesday before thunderstorm chances return.
