Rain System Moves In Sunday Night, Soaking Monday Ahead

My thermometer here at the Weather Center is reading 73° under clear skies — a genuinely fine end to the summer solstice Saturday. Enjoy this evening, because the pattern shifts meaningfully by early next week.

Tonight stays quiet and comfortable. Skies remain mainly clear with lows settling near 57° across most of the region. The northwest breeze eases after sunset, and with low humidity already in the mid-40s, it should feel pleasant through the evening hours. No frost concern tonight — lows are well above that threshold.

Tomorrow, Father’s Day, starts nicely. Highs reach the mid-70s under a mix of sun and clouds, with only an 18% precipitation chance — a slight rain possibility but most of the day stays dry. If dad’s plans involve time outdoors, the morning window looks best.

The real story arrives Sunday night into Monday. A vigorous system tracking east through the Ohio Valley pushes a heavy rain shield into the Finger Lakes by early Monday morning. Monday’s precip chance hits 76% with highs only near 67° — the coolest and wettest day of the stretch. NWS Buffalo notes some uncertainty in exactly where the heaviest rain sets up, but a soaking event is expected. Tuesday clears out, and the back half of the week returns to the mid-to-upper 70s.

Looking ahead to Friday, June 26: the IMSA WeatherTech weekend gets underway at Watkins Glen International. Right now, models show a 53% chance of light drizzle that day — worth watching as the week progresses.
