Sitting at my desk with the thermometer reading 70° under a stretch of blue solstice sky, this afternoon is one I’d want to be outside for — because it may not stay this clean. A shortwave trough tracking across the region this afternoon and evening carries enough energy to spark scattered showers, and south of Lake Ontario that includes a few embedded thunderstorms, most likely between 2 PM and 8 PM. The heaviest odds sit over the central and eastern lakes. No NWS alerts are in effect for the Finger Lakes proper; a Beach Hazards Statement covering Monroe and northern Cayuga counties expires at 2 AM. Highs top out in the low-to-mid 70s regionwide — Ithaca and Watkins Glen nudging 74–76°, Geneva and Auburn holding near 73°. Winds stay westerly at 10–14 mph. Sunday brings another round of passing drizzle, and a more organized low tracking out of the Ohio Valley arrives Sunday night, expanding showers across the region into Monday. Lows tonight settle near 57°.
