Winds, Scattered Showers Linger Through the Weekend

The pressure gradient that’s been driving this breezy stretch isn’t done yet — high pressure pushing into the Ohio Valley is keeping westerly winds locked in at 15 mph across most of the region, with gusts to 25–30 mph still possible this afternoon over higher terrain. Geneva sits at 72°F under clear skies at midday, which is right at the forecast high, though daytime heating this afternoon could push temps a degree or two higher before sunset at 8:49 PM.

A shortwave trough crossing this afternoon may spark scattered showers and a few thunderstorms, with the best odds running along the I-90 corridor — Auburn is already picking up light drizzle at 71°F, and Penn Yan is seeing the same. If you’re heading out this evening, keep an umbrella handy, but widespread storm coverage looks limited.

The Beach Hazards Statement for northern Cayuga lakeshore runs through 8 PM tonight — dangerous wave action and rip currents remain a concern near the water.

The weekend brings more of the same: lingering drizzle chances Saturday, another slight rain chance Sunday — then rain potential increases more noticeably Sunday night into Monday, with 80% precipitation odds arriving by Monday afternoon.
