Scattered drizzle is still making the rounds across the northern and central lakes this evening — Geneva is sitting at 69° under partly cloudy skies while Ithaca and Penn Yan are dealing with dense drizzle as the low-level moisture lingers. That’s the tail end of an unusually deep low-pressure system that’s been driving this region all week; NWS Buffalo notes it’s pushing east into New Brunswick tonight, which means conditions improve but don’t completely settle before dawn.
Overnight lows will drop to the upper 50s across most of the region — near 58° in Geneva — with no frost risk. Winds ease considerably after 9 PM as diurnal mixing shuts down, so expect a noticeably calmer night than we’ve had. No overnight alerts are in effect, though the Beach Hazards Statement covering Lake Ontario shores expires at 8 PM tonight.
Tomorrow looks like the best day of the weekend. Saturday brings mainly clear skies and a high near 73° in Geneva, with just a 3% precipitation chance — essentially a dry day. Enjoy it while you can. NWS is flagging increasing potential for widespread rain and a few thunderstorms arriving Sunday night through Monday, with an 82% precipitation chance by Monday.
