Weather forecast for the Finger Lakes: Cold Front Brings Rain Monday; Breezy Friday Afternoon Ahead

Right at midday, Geneva is sitting at 71°F under clear skies — and that relative calm is somewhat deceptive given what the wind is doing. NWS Buffalo expects gusts of 25 to 30 mph across the Finger Lakes this afternoon as daytime heating tightens the pressure gradient behind Thursday’s departing low, with gusts up to 35 mph possible closer to the Lake Ontario shoreline. A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect through 8 PM tonight for northern Cayuga County lake shores.

Shower and thunderstorm chances increase along the I-90 corridor through mid-afternoon, with Auburn — sitting right in that convergent flow zone — under light drizzle already. Penn Yan is also seeing some light drizzle at midday. Southern-tier communities like Corning and Elmira look drier this afternoon, with highs near 73-75°F.

The weekend brings a quieter but still unsettled pattern: scattered showers possible Saturday and Sunday, with the bigger rain event arriving Sunday night into Monday when precip chances jump to 80 percent for Geneva. Highs hold in the low-to-mid 70s through early next week.
