That wall of west wind rattling windows across the Finger Lakes all afternoon is finally on its way out. Geneva hit 74° this evening under clear skies with westerlies still running at 20 mph — down from the peak gusts that pushed near 55 mph closer to Buffalo and Rochester earlier today. The Wind Advisories covering Yates, Seneca, and Steuben counties expire at 8 PM tonight, and conditions should quiet considerably after sunset.
Overnight, skies stay mostly clear as the low responsible for all this drama continues pulling away into southern Quebec. Lows settle in the upper 50s to lower 60s — no frost risk tonight. Winds drop to 5 to 10 mph by midnight.
Friday looks noticeably calmer and a few degrees cooler, with highs topping out near 73° and a slim 23 percent chance of lingering drizzle. Expect mainly clear skies developing through the afternoon. Another round of scattered rain chances returns by Monday.
