I’m watching a weak front approach from the west tonight, and it’s going to bring a notable change to the pattern we’ve enjoyed all week. For now, it’s a beautiful early June evening across the Finger Lakes — temperatures still holding in the mid-80s as we head into the 6 o’clock hour, with low humidity and a light westerly breeze making it feel genuinely comfortable outside.
Overnight stays mild and dry, with lows dropping to the mid-50s regionwide — near 53° in Geneva and Ithaca, a touch warmer at 58° in Penn Yan. No frost concerns tonight. Skies remain mostly overcast in Geneva, clear elsewhere, and there’s nothing meaningful in the way of precipitation before daybreak.
The story changes Saturday. The NWS Buffalo office is flagging showers and thunderstorms for the daytime hours, with a pre-frontal trough driving the activity more than the cold front itself. Expect scattered showers to push across the area from west to east through the morning, with the better storm chances — including an isolated severe weather risk — developing through the afternoon. Localized heavy downpours are possible. Winds pick up as well, gusting to around 22 mph at times. Highs still reach the mid-80s before the front washes through, then fall to near 70° by Sunday as cooler, drier air settles in.
