Enjoy the calm while it lasts. After a gorgeous late-April afternoon — temperatures topping out near 74° in Ithaca and Watkins Glen under clear skies — tonight turns active in a hurry. A deepening low over Lake Superior is tightening the pressure gradient across the region, and southeast winds will accelerate sharply after 11 PM. NWS Buffalo and Binghamton have both issued Wind Advisories through Tuesday morning, covering most of the Finger Lakes, with gusts near 50 mph possible across higher terrain including the Bristol Hills and inland Southern Tier. Secure anything loose before you turn in.
Lows will fall into the upper 30s regionwide — no frost tonight, but the wind will make it feel rawer than those numbers suggest.
Tuesday brings unsettled conditions, with developing rainfall expected to raise streams and creeks. Flows are already running moderate on the Seneca River near Seneca Falls (2,060 cfs) and Canandaigua Outlet at Chapin (740 cfs) — worth watching as rain moves in. By week’s end, frost returns and higher terrain could see snow.
