I’m watching a dry, pleasant Tuesday unfold mostly as expected, with one mild surprise: skies are running a bit more variable than the “overcast” label in this morning’s forecast suggested. Temperatures across the region are already in the upper 60s to low 70s by midday, tracking right on pace for afternoon highs near 73–74°F. No alerts are in effect.
The rest of this afternoon looks comfortable — NW winds around 9 mph, humidity in the low-to-mid 30s to 40s, and plenty of sunshine for most towns. Watkins Glen is the exception, holding onto overcast skies midday, but that cloud deck should gradually thin. Lows tonight drop into the low-to-mid 40s, so have a light layer handy if you’re out after dark in Geneva or Ithaca.
Looking ahead, the NWS Buffalo office is flagging an “omega block” pattern that’s been keeping our region in the favorable warm, dry sector. That breaks down late this week. A Pacific low weakening as it tracks east will bring a southerly moist flow by Friday, fueling building instability through the weekend. Showers and thunderstorms are most likely Saturday and Sunday, with the potential for locally heavy downpours — forecasted atmospheric moisture is high enough that any stronger storm could drop a quick inch or more. Friday still looks mostly dry with only a slight storm chance.
