Weather forecast for the Finger Lakes: Scattered Showers Move Through Overnight Before Warmup Arrives

Skies are overcast across the region this evening, with temperatures holding in the mid-50s — 55° in Watkins Glen and Penn Yan, 54° in Corning, 53° in Bath. Don’t let the mild evening fool you: a shortwave pushing through the Great Lakes will drag a weak surface low across the region overnight, touching off scattered showers as a warm front advances northward. Rainfall will be light — generally a tenth to a quarter inch in the southern tier near Corning and Bath, tapering to just a trace closer to the lakes. The cold front clears the area by Wednesday morning, ending any lingering showers.

Despite the forecast lows — dipping into the upper 20s near Corning and mid-20s around Penn Yan — the incoming moisture and cloud cover should buffer the coldest hours. Frost is possible in sheltered valleys, but the shower activity limits the most severe radiational cooling.

Looking ahead, high pressure builds through the week, and an omega block pattern sets up across the region. Expect a steady warm-up into the 60s Thursday and possibly the lower 70s by Friday or the weekend.
