Hard Freeze Threatens Region Through Monday Night

Weather forecast for the Finger Lakes: Hard Freeze Threatens Region Through Monday Night

Temperatures are already tumbling across the Finger Lakes this evening, with most spots sitting in the low 40s under heavy overcast skies. Tonight will be the real concern: a deep trough pushing through the Great Lakes will drag 850-millibar temperatures down to around -12°C by tomorrow morning, translating to surface lows in the mid-to-upper 20s regionwide. Cover tender plants tonight — there’s no getting around it.

Monday looks raw. Highs will struggle to reach the mid-to-upper 30s, and scattered precipitation chances linger into the morning hours before conditions dry out by Monday afternoon. Monday night could be even colder, with interior Southern Tier valleys potentially dipping into the teens.

The good news: a welcomed stretch of dry weather returns Monday night and carries into the week ahead as low-level ridging rebuilds.
