Temperatures climbed into the mid-to-upper 70s across the region today — a warm, if unsettled, Saturday. That changes tonight. A cold front is pushing into the area this evening, dragging a narrow but loaded band of moisture with it. Showers and embedded thunderstorms are expected through the late evening hours, and while the overall severe weather risk has come down since this morning, an isolated damaging wind gust can’t be ruled out. The NWS flags our more complex terrain — particularly the Southern Tier valleys and Finger Lakes corridor — as sensitive to locally heavy rainfall. Streams are already running at moderate levels across the region, so any quick downpours deserve attention.
Once the front clears overnight, skies improve and temperatures drop into the upper 40s. Sunday brings cooler, below-average conditions — think highs likely struggling into the low-to-mid 60s — but drier and calmer. More seasonal warmth returns by Tuesday.
